A synthetic fleece blanket in his crate, or a soft commercial dog bed available from pet supply stores, will make him very happy. Of course, he is happiest of all in your bed. Allowing him the luxury of your sheets is up to you—but do remember that the adorable ten-pound puppy is going to grow up to weigh many times that! Be sure that your Boxer sleeps out of drafts; he does not have a heavy coat to keep him warm. This is especially important for the new puppy, who has, up until now, had the physical presence of his mother and littermates to keep him cozy.
You will save money by buying the adult size for your puppy—he grows up quickly! If you buy a wire crate, be sure the mesh is not so widely spaced that your puppy can get his head through—puppies can insert their heads into very small spaces. The danger here is that he will not be able to extract himself and may panic and choke. Now that I’ve issued that warning, let me tell you that a crate will make your life much easier. They are useful for two things: housetraining and your pup’s physical safety.
